Elite lawyer Evelyn Smith is renowned in her firm for her unbeaten track record. While visiting her hometown, she witnesses her childhood friend Susan Miller being abused by her husband, Frank Brown. Evelyn intervenes to stop Frank, and upon learning that Evelyn is a lawyer, Susan clings to her as a lifeline, begging her to file for divorce.
